Internationally recognised as one of the most brilliant Italian artists of his generation, in 2013 Francesco Vezzoli is set to be showcased in three solo shows at MAXXI in Rome, MoMA PS1 in New York and MOCA in Los Angeles. Three independent exhibitions but each forming part of the major project The Trinity, born as a joint venture between three prestigious international institutions and exploring and presenting to the public diverse and fundamental aspects of the artist’s work and development.

From 24 April to 27 October 2013 MAXXI is dedicating a major anthological exhibition to one of the undisputed masters of Italian photography: Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992). Born out of the collaboration between the municipality of Reggio Emilia and the Biblioteca Panizzi, which conserves many of the original documents (photographs, galley proofs, books, catalogues and negatives) in its archive, the exhibition Luigi Ghirri. Thinking through images recounts the multiple aspects of this complex artist.

With the ambit of the celebrations of Art Povera – a series of events curated by Germano Celant on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy – MAXXI presents two major installations by Jannis Kounellis and Gilberto Zorio that dialogue with the Lymph sculptures by Giuseppe Penone, a permanent feature of the museum spaces.
With its dialogue between artificial and natural elements, Lymph sculptures synthesises one of the strands of research underlying the Arte Povera movement.
