The first art museum exhibition of the acclaimed Seattle performance group Implied Violence features sculptures, costumes, props, masks, video- and photo-documentation of selected past performances as well as a new performance created especially for the Frye Art Museum’s reflecting pools. Titled Implied Violence: Yes and More and Yes and Yes and Why, the exhibition will be on view October 9, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

The Puppet Show at Frye Art Museum

In contemporary art the puppet appears as a psychological surrogate, a social commentator, and an entertaining performer. An exhibition exploring the imagery and function of puppets—through working puppets and artworks associated with ideas central to puppetry—The Puppet Show will be on view at the Frye May 16–Sept. 13, 2009.

Exhibition Explores Artistic Exchange between Germany and America
Transatlantic: American Artists in Germany
Jan. 24–April 26, 2009
Transatlantic: American Artists in Germany, presented at the Frye Art Museum from January 24 through April 26, 2009, brings together key works from the Frye Collections by some of America’s most esteemed artists, including William Merritt Chase, Albert Bierstadt, and John White Alexander, who studied or lived in Germany during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. The exhibition is shown in conjunction with the landmark survey The Munich Secession and America, presented January 24 through April 26, 2009.

Exhibition Brings Video Works by Berlin Artist to Northwest

Through a solo presentation and group exhibition, the Frye Art Museum brings video works by international animation artist Nathalie Djurberg to Northwest audiences. Four recent video works by the Berlin-based video artist will be presented in Nathalie Djurberg from January 24 through April 26, followed by a group exhibition, The Puppet Show (May 16—September 13) featuring four additional works by Djurberg.
