Artist-in-Residence Andre Woodward to Showcase Sculptures

Public to Interact and Experience Art and Artist

IRVINE, Calif., June 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Visitors can meet the Great Park’s latest Artist-in-Residence Andre Woodward and view his sculptures and artwork at the Artists Studios in the Palm Court Arts Complex from June through October 2012, Saturdays and Sundays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

“This is our first opportunity to feature sculpture as part of the Great Park Artist-in-Residence program,” said Beth Krom, Chair, Orange County Great Park Board Corporation. “The program allows the public to interaction with both the art and artist in a professional studio setting.”

Andre Woodward was featured on the cover of the May issue of Sculpture Magazine. Woodward is also featured this summer on the cover of Visions, an annual publication published by the Alliance of Artists Communities, a national and international professional association. His sculptures personify the ecological facilitation between nature, technology, and humanity, using a mixture of manmade and natural materials. His carefully composed objects highlight the urban environment in relation to the natural world.

Andre Woodward is a Costa Mesa-based sculptor who earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from University of California, Irvine and a Masters in Fine Arts in Sculpture from California State University, Long Beach. His work has been presented in many southern California galleries, including the Torrance Art Museum and the Huntington Beach Art Center. Woodward has received several honors, including a Hoff Foundation Grant and the 2011 Vision from the New California award.

The Great Park Artists-in-Residence program is dedicated to showcasing artists, providing an educational experience for the community while designing site-specific visual or performance works for the Great Park. The program provides artists with suitable studio space and open studio hours to routinely interact with the general public during their six-month engagement. The artists were selected by a panel of public arts experts through a competitive selection process administered by Arts Orange County, the county’s designated local arts agency.
