Ana Tzarev Exclusive Showcase: Celebrated Turkish artist Devrim Erbil premiere at Ana Tzarev New York

NEW YORK, April 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Ana Tzarev Gallery is proud to host selected works from accomplished Turkish artist Devrim Erbil. Known for meticulous, kinetic renderings of cityscapes and vibrant, abstracted vistas of international locales, Erbil’s prolific career spans decades.

Born in Usak in 1937, Erbil was drawn to his calling from a young age. He attended the esteemed State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, enrolling in 1955 and swiftly gaining attention for his work. Shortly after graduating from the institution’s painting program, he participated in the Venice Biennale and was granted an art scholarship by the government of Spain. Erbil was a pivotal force in the formation of the artist collectives known as “the Abstract 7” and “the Blue Group.”

Erbil’s career is notable for its blend of aesthetic practice and academics. After becoming president of the Turkish Association of Contemporary Artists in 1969, he served as an associate professor at the Academy where he received his education. By 1985, he was a full professor at the institution as well as a chairman of the Department of Painting at Mimar Sinan University. Erbil presently serves as a member of the Fine Arts staff at Mimar Sinan University, regularly delivering lectures and publishing articles relating to the art world.

The artist’s works have traveled the world over, shown in numerous joint exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Several of his pieces were selected for inclusion in the private collections of the state museums of Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir. The exhibition at the Ana Tzarev Gallery will be his first US showcase since 2011’s solo exhibit at the Turkish Center in New York.

Devrim Erbil‘s works will be on view at the Gallery from April 11th to May 9th, 2013.
