Danh Võ
For the KUB Billboards Danh Võ selected found images from the history of Vietnam and arranged them in pairs.
On the one hand, there are photos of intimate situations among Vietnamese men taken in the 1960s by Joseph Carrier while working as an economist for the RAND Corporation; on the other, illustrations of martyrs in Vietnam who underwent torture and execution for their faith. There is a detailed depiction, for instance, of the martyrdom of the missionary Charles Cornay, who, after being imprisoned and tortured, was executed by lingchi (»death by a thousand cuts«) in Tonkin, North Vietnam, in 1837.
