The Auburn Gallery is very excited to be showing works by internationally renowned calligrapher, illumination artist, and teacher, SHEILA WATERS For those who could not attend the opening to meet this fascinating artist, we are pleased to announce that Waters will be at our gallery for a second time on Sunday, January 25,2009, weather permitting.
The show features 41 works of calligraphic and illuminated art of the highest quality on handmade paper and calfskin vellum. Included among the many works at the opening, Triptych 1: Ancient, 2: Medieval, 3: Modern, and Tor House Poem have since been moved to The Walters Art Museum in advance of their exhibition in its February 15 to May 24 show of pages from the Saint John’s Bible, and her lecture there on March 29, 2009.
In July 2009 STRATHMORE HALL will be doing a retrospective on Waters 60 year career.
Waters has provided a limited number of signed original pieces on natural-toned calfskin vellum with gold leaf embellishment for purchase at the show. Please don’t miss this rare opportunity to own a Waters original. Also available for purchase are signed giclée prints, and limited edition numbered prints.
Also Available are signed copies of Water’s Book “Foundations of Calligraphy”
The success and interest in this show has prompted us to extend the gallery hours in January and February 2009.
