Miami Project and Art on Paper Miami at The Deauville Beach Resort
Miami Project and Art on Paper Miami open Tuesday, December 1st at The Deauville Beach Resort in the heart of Miami Beach. The co-located fairs will build on the resounding success of their previous editions, making The Deauville a must-visit destination during Miami’s Art Week.
Now celebrating its fourth year as one of the most highly sought out venues for the acquisition of modern and contemporary art, Miami Project 2015 will offer fair-goers a distinct Miami Beach experience. Alongside presentations by fifty top galleries from around the world, Miami Project will also include a robust program of special projects installed throughout the grounds of The Deauville Beach Resort.
Chris Doyle and Catharine Clark Gallery will present an outdoor projection that explores collective attitudes about the environment through landscape representation. Originally commissioned by New York City’s Wave Hill, the outdoor projection has a strong ecological message that reflects on current environmental conditions. Norbert Brunner and Claire Oliver Gallery will feature Brunner’s site specific Cook Local Impact Global. Making its debut at Miami Project, the work is a material visualization of the importance of living with intention. The installation’s large tables, made from the actual 150 year old floorboards of the Museum of Art in Vienna, will hold a four inch wide channel of Brunner’s distinctive layers of Plexiglass and Swarovski crystals and miss-matched tableware full to the brim with a reflective surface that will bounce back images of provoking questions posed by influential artists. JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY will present a special, invitation only, exhibition of Guns in the Hands of Artists, a community-based social activist artistic project that transforms decommissioned guns taken off the streets of New Orleans into powerful works of art. Over 180 guns were acquired through the city’s gun buyback program and were then distributed to over thirty nationally known artists, including Mel Chin, Deborah Luster, Rico Gatson, and Peter Sarkisian, to be utilized in artworks meant to address the issue of guns in our society.
One of The New York Times’ must see 2015 art fairs, March’s Art on Paper included compelling, large-scale installations and critically acclaimed exhibitions. Featuring presentations by Forum Gallery, Center Street Studio, Sasha Wolf Gallery, Allouche Gallery, Art Vitam, and VICTORI+MO, among others, this Art on Paper Miami focus section will be a forum for the exploration of a medium – a space for intimate conversation between exhibitor and collector.
The Deauville Beach Resort will also play host to some of the country’s top food and drink programs. Miami’s renowned The Broken Shaker will take over the hotel’s beverage service, offering visitors the exclusive opportunity to experience the cocktail program recently voted this year’s Best Hotel Bar in America. New York City favorites Black Tree and Big Mozz will join the fairs to feature new menus crafted specifically for the Miami audience. Featuring two members of Zagat’s 30 Under 30, and one of the world’s best bars, The Deauville Beach Resort will be the ultimate Miami Art Week destination for top food and drink.
