Raw Fury: The Art of Mike Zeck
The Cartoon Art Museum presents Raw Fury: The Art of Mike Zeck in a career retrospective on display from April 5 to August 10, 2014. This exhibition features the most comprehensive collection of the fan-favorite artist’s most iconic artwork ever assembled, including The Punisher, G.I. Joe, The Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars, and Captain America. A full-color exhibition catalog will be published in conjunction with the exhibition, featuring more than 50 pieces of original artwork, an introduction by exhibition curator Charles Costas, and commentary from Zeck himself.

Michael J. Zeck was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in South Florida. He attended the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, his eye always on working in the sequential art field. His first professional comics work was published by Charlton Comics in their animation-related titles, which led to their horror comics line, and paving the way for his big break with Marvel Comics. His earliest breakout success came with Master of Kung-Fu, which led to an acclaimed run on Captain America with writer J.M. DeMatteis. Zeck’s work on the best-selling Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars elevated him to industry superstar status, and his next major project, The Punisher, took his career to new heights and transformed the character into one of Marvel’s most popular anti-heroes.
Zeck established himself as a fan favorite cover artist in the 1980s, illustrating some of the most iconic and enduring covers of that decade on titles including G.I. Joe, The Punisher, Captain America, The Amazing Spider-Man and Marvel Tales. His DC work including Batman, Lobo, Deathstroke: The Terminator and Green Lantern proved to be equally popular with fans. Most of Zeck’s current work occurs behind the scenes, creating licensing artwork and commissioned works featuring his most fondly remember characters.
