The Thrilling Adventure Hour
The Thrilling Adventure Hour
Cartoon Art Museum
June 29 – October 20, 2013
The Cartoon Art Museum, The WorkJuice Corporation, Quixotic Transmedia, and Archaia Entertainment are pleased to present artwork from the much-anticipated The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel at the Cartoon Art Museum from June 29 to October 20, 2013. Featuring artwork from 10 stories, the Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel explores all-new material from the series creators Ben Acker and Ben Blacker. Across various styles and genres, the characters from the critically acclaimed podcast are brought to life in the graphic novel and on the walls of the Cartoon Art Museum.
The Thrilling Adventure Hour (TAH) is a live staged show in the style of old-time radio performed monthly at the famous Largo of the Coronet Theater in LA. Running since 2005, each show features three original stories performed by the WorkJuice Players, a talented troupe of popular actors and comedians from stage and screen. This multi-faceted cast portrays all manner of characters from an ever-evolving array of recurring worlds and genre backdrops including space westerns, goofy super-heroics, fast-talking mediums and a British time-traveler… just to name a few. In 2011, The Thrilling Adventure Hour began distributing recordings of their performances as a popular podcast with Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Industries. And with the help of Quixotic Transmedia and their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012, TAH began expanding even further into a variety of new media, including a graphic novel, a web series, and a concert film. That fateful campaign also brought together Joe LeFavi of Quixotic Transmedia and CAM’s Roy Zemlicka, who together with Archaia facilitated the partnership with TAH for this exhibition.
The exhibition features digital reproductions straight from The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel anthology, which Archaia is publishing nationwide in late August. Featuring characters and worlds directly inspired by the popular stage show and podcast, the exhibit showcases work from such artists as Heidi Arnhold, Jordie Bellaire, Randy Bishop, Casey Crowe, Lar deSouza, Joanna Estep, Evan Larson, André May, Chris Moreno, Natalie Nourigat, Joel Priddy, Evan “Doc” Shaner, and Jeff Stokely.
Additionally the Cartoon Art Museum is proud to present exhibition-exclusive artwork inspired by The Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast and graphic novel from renowned artists Jackson Publick (The Venture Bros.), Ben Edlund (The Tick), Dustin Weaver (Avengers, Astonishing X-Men) and cover artwork by Tom Fowler (Mad Magazine, Mysterius The Unfathomable).
The Thrilling Adventure Hour Reception will be held at the Cartoon Art Museum in August, 2013. Details TBA.
